Heaven's Gate River Cottages is located in Vida, Oregon, along the McKenzie River. From Portland, drive south on I-5, then take Highway 126 towards Bend. From Eugene/Springfield, take Highway 126, (McKenzie River Highway) to Vida, Oregon — we are located at milepost 36 1/2. If you reach the town of Blue River, you have gone about 4 miles too far.

The McKenzie River area offers boundless recreation opportunities, with rivers, streams, lakes and mountain views.
Summer, Spring & Fall
- Fishing: Drop a line in right from your own private deck, or explore the many near by lakes and reservoirs. Fishing from the bank or in a drift boat, you can catch rainbow or cutthroat trout, summer steelhead, and chinook salmon.
- Boating and canoeing: Enjoy an afternoon on the water at any of the near by lakes, such as Clear Lake.
- White Water Rafting: Guided trips are available for a half or full day. This is a great way to beat the heat in the summer!
- Biking: The McKenzie River Trail offers 27-miles of mountain biking fun and spectacular scenery, including waterfalls and old growth forests.
- Nature Sight-Seeing: The area is full of natural attractions, such as 7 major volcanic peaks; lava beds at the base of the 3 Sisters Mountains; and waterfalls like Sahalie, Koosah and Proxy Falls. Take a drive on the Aufderheide Scenic Byway to experience some of the most breathtaking scenery in Oregon.
- Hiking or nature walks: The Willamette Forest, McKenzie River corridor, and the McKenzie Pass area are full of diverse trails that will suit the walker or avid hiker. The Waldo Lake Wilderness area offers backpacking and day hikes.
- Golf: Bring your clubs and head to Tokatee Golf Club, one of the country's highest rated public courses. Or try your hand at McKenzie River Golf Course, a 9 hole course bordering the McKenzie River.
Winter
- Relax indoors: Enjoy a cozy fire and listen to the powerful McKenzie River just outside your back door.
- Hot Springs: Belnap hot springs offers a relaxing soak.
- Fishing: Fishing in the McKenzie and surrounding lakes and reservoirs is outstanding year round.
- Shopping and Dining: Try local restaurants in Vida, or take the short drive east to the Western yet upscale town of Sisters.
- Hiking and Biking: The local trails are open year-round.
- Ski and Snowboard: Play in the snow at Hoodoo Ski Bowl, and explore the many cross country and snowshoeing trails.
